You have heard us speak the problem of adult advertising in the path of children. I need to state that this is certainly a "work in progress", we are hoping that you will get involved and perhaps give us some better ideas on how to achieve our goal of removing adult material and advertising from the frequented path of children.
Let me start by saying that there are opportunities to take a "high road" approach issues; and that of the "low road" approach. We do not feel it is unreasonable for our society to demand that the "high road" is always taken relative to children and families.
We do recognize the greatest responsability needs to be rightly placed upon the parents, and family of all children. Parents should not have to;
- Shield a child from adult oriented billboards on public and/ or private roads.
- Monitor all commercials that are aired during hours that the child is watching childrens programming.
- Be concerned with adult language and material on the radio.
- See adult themed ads for movies at movie theaters.
That being said; we put forward the following solution in it's rough draft formation. Version and revision information will be available in this article at the end along with any credits, if any.
The problem - Adult Advertising in the media and venues where children frequent.
The solution - These solutions are based upon the premise of the majority of parents and family are not in the homes during 7am-6pm, Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays parents are home.
Network and CableTelevision Commercials.
No adult material rated above a "G" rating shall be aired during the hours of 6:00 AM - 6:00PM Monday through Friday
No adult material rated above PG-13 shall be aired between 6:00pm - 8:00PM M-F, and 6:00AM-6:00PM Saturday and Sunday during the hours of 6:00 AM - 6:00PM.
These laws apply to all time zones that the channel is in, regardless of cable or network affiliation. Meaning that the network and cable provider will be responsible for making sure that no adult ads or material air during the specified hours.
Billboards.
No adult material at all.
Radio.
No adult material rated above a "G" rating shall be aired during the hours of 6:00 AM - 6:00PM Monday through Friday
